The Mid-Year Team Health Check. Where are you? (podcast)

Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast where we share our expertise in the discovery, practice, and implementation of a strengths-based approach to people, teams, and culture.

Today on the podcast, Sara Schlipp-Riedel and I discuss a recent activity we did on our team. Sara leads our staff meetings, and asked us each to answer a handful of “mid-year” check-in questions. They are designed to help us evaluate how the first half of our year has gone, and look towards the second half. The intent is to figure out what sorts of corrective measures might be needed to achieve our desired goals.

Below you will find a list of the questions used. After you listen to this episode, try them out on your team and let us know how it went. These questions are not meant to be answered by everyone on the team at the same time. Rather, as team members to pick a few of them to share. Feel free to be as vulnerable as you want.

Mid-Year Health Check

Here is the exact note Sara sent us:

Happy July everyone! I’m excited to see all that available for our Staff Meeting on Wednesday. This meeting will be a great opportunity for us to connect as a team before we turn the corner to the second half of 2019 – where does the time go?!

Sara Schlipp-Riedel – Staff note on July 1.

She then asked us to come prepared with a few reflections on a few of the following prompts:

Reflections on the First Half of the Year

  • What’s gone well?
  • What have you been surprised by?
  • How are you doing?
  • What’s stood out to you?
  • What are you wondering about?
  • What do you need your colleagues to know?

What do you need for a successful second half of the year?

  • What does success look like for you?
  • What will make for a meaningful second half of the year?
  • Who could be the most helpful to you?
  • Who would you like to partner with?

Your Reflection

What, if anything, resonated with you about those questions? Were there any big ah-ha moments after reading those? Please share in the comments section below!
