Exploring Our Team Values
Over the next five weeks, we’re exploring our team values which are generosity, courage, wisdom, team, and fun. In each episode, we’re diving into where our values come from, what they mean, and how we are applying them to our team, our relationships, and ourselves.
In this episode, we explore our team value of wisdom. We discuss the meaning of wisdom, the importance of sharing our wisdom with others, and how wisdom shows up in our Strengths, on our team, and in experiences with our clients, peers, and loved ones. We also share reflection questions to help you start exploring the wisdom in your own life.
At Leadership Vision, we believe wisdom is the application of learned lessons to ourselves and to others. Wisdom is the learning of life lessons and applying those life lessons to others who are in need. We believe true wisdom is more than intellectual horsepower, it’s something that is shared and lived. Wisdom is the shared expression of truth with others so that they may benefit. The more wisdom is shared, the more it grows.
Oftentimes, sharing wisdom is about planting a seed in the right soil and knowing that over time the seed will grow roots, break open, and emerge new life. Sometimes speaking wisdom is simply believing in the natural process of how truth is going to germinate over time. Wisdom is not some destination that we will arrive at someday, it is a state of mind and a state of being that we can apply every day. Regardless of our gender, our age, or our level of education, we are all bearers of wisdom and we all have the chance to see opportunities to give that wisdom away.
Why the Value of Wisdom?
Values are important because they anchor us and keep us steady when things shift and change. They are the bedrock of our very being, everything that we try to do in life is anchored on that bedrock. Values shape our behaviors, what we believe in, and our relationships with the world around us.
Wisdom is one of our values at Leadership Vision because there’s a sense of wisdom in everything we do. It’s our pursuit of wisdom and of gleaning wisdom from our peers, our colleagues, and our clients that informs our work. When we meet wise people, we lean in and gather as much wisdom as we can in order to share that wisdom with the next group and the next group, and then sometimes we share it on this podcast or in a blog. We believe we have a responsibility as an organization to always look at, assess, and contemplate the lessons we’re learning and then ask ourselves how we can share those lessons with our clients and loved ones.
Reflecting on Your Wisdom
Take some time to reflect on your wisdom, your life lessons and knowledge, and how that wisdom is shaped by your Strengths. Reflect back on some of the significant life lessons you’ve learned that continue to be guiding forces in your life then, ask yourself the following questions:
- What have I learned?
- Where and with whom am I sharing my most important life lessons?
- When have I acted in wisdom or shared wisdom, and with whom?
- How did it feel to be both vulnerable and courageous in sharing my wisdom?
- How am I feeding or nurturing my wisdom?
- How are my top five Strengths engaged in this wisdom process?
- How are my Strengths learning?
- What resources do my Strengths need to learn?
- What lessons are being taught by my Strengths?
- How can each of my Strengths share wisdom with others?
- What life lessons am I learning right now and how might they be applied towards someone else or a different type of situation?
