Why Relationships Matter Now More than Ever

In this episode of the leadership vision podcast, we discuss team building, strengthening relationships, and how you can set up your business, organization, and even family for success.

Recently, we read the Udemy Business 2022 Workplace Learning Trends Report and it got us thinking about the need for developing leaders to adjust to changing times and team building.

“The most in-demand skills aren’t just about staying ahead of the technical curve skills related to leadership. Teamwork, communication, productivity and wellness are critical to every employee’s performance. This is why it no longer makes sense to call them soft skills as if they represent a less important set of skills in the workplace. These skills aren’t just nice to have, they’re essential for changing the workplace.”

How do we strengthen the relationships we have with each other? At Leadership Vision, the work that we do is uniquely situated to help teams understand how they build relationships and how they understand one another.

The Importance of Team Building and Relationships

Team building begins with a relationship with yourself in a relationship with others. When it comes to leadership, teamwork, communication, productivity, and wellness, none of these power skills can be accomplished without another person. They are dependent on the relationships.

If you’re giving your team industry-specific training on the technical skills that they need to know to complete their job but you don’t address the power skills, they’re going to move on to another company or another organization. Power skills and technical skills go hand in hand for companies that are finding greater loyalty from their employees.

How to Strengthen Relationships on Your Team

We’re in a new age in 2022 and team building looks different. How are you communicating with your teams? How are you relating back in the office? How can you strengthen relationships in this new age?

Identify your context for team building. Contextually within this time in history, organizations are standing at a fork in the road. What is the context for strengthening relationships on your team?

Cast a vision of success. Remind your team of what success looks like. Remind them that you’re with them, that you want their success, your success, and the success of the organization. You will drive accountability by helping your team understand and ask for what they need.

Start fresh. If you are addressing a challenge in building your team and relationships, give yourself and your team permission to start over. Leave some of the older patterns and practices behind that aren’t working anymore and embrace this opportunity to try something new. Experiment with a new mindset, a new frame of mind, to how you’re approaching this challenge of relating to each other in this new context.
