How Strengths show up in our Daily Routines: a Conversation with Nathan, Steph & Brian

Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, where we share our expertise in the discovery, practice, and implementation of a Strengths-Based approach to people, teams, and culture.

Today on the podcast, Brian, Steph, and I talk about how our Themes of Strength show up in one of our daily routines; working out. We know that may sound odd, but for the three of us competing in athletic endeavors is a huge part of our lives. Steph holds her college school record for the high jump. Brian at one point was a nationally ranked triathlete and he still runs very fast marathons. I don’t have anything that cool to boast about, but I do regularly compete in various road races and am often in the top 10% of finishers.

But this conversation isn’t really about competition or being physically fit or being fast or strong or any of those things. It’s simply about looking at one area of our lives that we value and put a lot of our time and energy towards and examine how we see our Strengths showing up there. We could just as easily talk about how our Strengths show up in other hobbies or parenting styles, or how we approach involvement in any number of activities.

We believe strengths show up in every part of our lives and by taking the time to examine one of those daily routines, we can reveal more about how Strengths show up in other areas as well. Or maybe not as you’ll soon hear.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: We recorded this episode in mid-February, 2020. This was before the coronavirus pandemic shut down much of the country. Before the murder of George Floyd and subsequent protests around issues that continue to be pressing. The world feels different now and as we continue to educate ourselves on both of these subjects, we want to acknowledge what’s going on in the larger conversation. At the end of this episode, I reflect, just a little bit, about how my own thinking has changed since we recorded this
