You won’t JUST see the sights, sounds and culture of the city – you’ll EXPERIENCE it! Through an “Amazing Race” type journey across Manhattan, to Geocaching in Central Park, or serving at a park in Brooklyn… these ADVENTURES (and others) will uncover more of your unique strength. You’ll get to see NYC, and YOURSELF, in a truly unique way.
As a college student, how exciting would this be? Even if you are many years removed from college, this will be a blast. We (Brian, Michele and Nathan), are in the final stages of planning a nine day Vision Trekk experience March 17-25. We are taking 16 Bethel University (where Nathan works) students to the Big Apple. The Trekk will focus on the four elements of our leadership model.
Perhaps the most exciting part, is the use of New York city as our classroom and playground. Each day will begin and with an experiential adventure to teach these concepts. Before dinner, we will lead them through a formal debrief activity to integrate the days material.
StrengthsFinder, MBTI and the APEST assessments are tools we are using to teach the four pillars. We are also teaching a session on Character that corresponds with the service opportunity.
Here are a few of the adventures.
- Architecture landmark navigation
- Times square scavenger hunt
- Art crawl in The Met
- Geocache in Central Park
- Service Project in Prospect Park
- Ellis Island History tour
- China town exploration
The last content day will conclude with an interactive 360 process. Each student will have the opportunity to identify areas of strength, personality preference and motivation in each of the four areas. The guides and other participants will affirm what they have observed throughout the week.
For us, this is one of the most amazing things we do. Not only do we get to spend intentional time with a group of college students, but we get to sharpen our skills as well. It’s mutual learning. This will be our fourth Vision Trekk like this, and each time the participants feel a greater sense of what their unique voice is.
Did I mention we’re taking Amtrak? 36 hours each way! It will truly be an eye opening trip.
